Fashion Brüderlin, Hannelore A collection of fashion drawings by Hannelore Brüderlin and her students. Circa 1980. Pastel, felt-tip pen, pencil, coloured pencil, white paint and collage on various types of vellum and tracing paper. Dimensions ranging from approx. 30 x 42 cm to approx. 61.5 x 84 cm. Some feature labels, numbering and notes in pencil. An extensive collection from the ‘Fashion Illustration’ course taught by Hannelore Brüderlin at the Lette-Verein in Berlin, one of Germany’s most long-established training centres for fashion illustration. The sheets showcase the full spectrum of fashion illustration from the 1980s: ranging from loose, large-format chalk sketches to precise figure drawings in felt-tip pen and opaque white, through to collaged collection sheets featuring groups of models for day, evening and beachwear. Broad shoulders, hats, bold blocks of colour and dynamic poses come together to form a vibrant panorama of the fashion and drawing style of those years. Similar works from Brüderlin’s classes are documented in the exhibition “Berlin Zeichnet Mode” at the German Digital Library. - Included: Collection of newspaper cuttings and copies. - Papers partly slightly browned and creased, margins partly with small tears, sporadically stained; transparent papers partly with age-related curling. Overall in very good condition, with expressive compositions that reflect the fashion of the time. An extensive collection from the context of Hannelore Brüderlin’s fashion illustration classes at the Lette-Verein in Berlin, one of Germany’s most venerable training institutions for fashion drawing. The sheets showcase the full spectrum of 1980s fashion illustration: from loose, large-format chalk sketches to precise figures in felt-tip pen and opaque white, and collaged collection sheets depicting groups of models for day, evening and beachwear. Some bear inscriptions, numbering and annotations in pencil. - Some sheets are slightly discoloured by age and creased; the edges have small nicks in places, with isolated spots; the tracing papers show age-related cockling. - Overall in very good condition, with expressive compositions that vividly reflect the fashion of the period. -
