Fashion Strasser, Ernst A collection comprising 20 colour design drawings for ladies’ dresses and suits, 17 of which are large-format. 1980s. Each in ink, gouache and coloured pencil on light, white paper, mostly mounted on black card. 17.2 x 10.7 cm to 42 x 29.6 cm. Mostly signed in print with various trademarks. Contemporary half-leather binding, recto with mounted label (‘Linea Est’) and verso with handwritten title on the cover (torn at the joints, scuffed). A unique portfolio containing designs for eccentric ladies’ dresses, fantastical costumes for the stage and masked balls. - The colourful and whimsically shaped drawings by the Viennese designer Ernst Strasser mostly depict structured garments, sometimes with tiered silhouettes, often featuring eccentric accessories such as stand-up collars, headdresses, feather boas and fringing, designed with geometric patterns (e.g. Greek meander) or using the stylistic vocabulary of Art Deco and the typical postmodern attitude of the 1980s.
