Dark blue full morocco with rich gilding on the spine and covers in Art Nouveau style, blind-embossed corner fleurons with passion flowers. Richly gilded morocco lining with multicoloured inlays and blind-embossed passion flowers in horror vacui. Endpapers of striped silk and handmade marbled paper, three-sided gilt edges. In a marbled and lined slipcase (the latter slightly scuffed). Second expanded edition. – Unnumbered copy of the special edition on Japanese paper, signed by the author in the colophon and designated as an author’s copy. A further 12 numbered copies of the special edition were published (GA 512). - The magnificent Art Nouveau binding, which, surprisingly, is unsigned, can be attributed to Charles Meunier, who created several similar bindings for the special editions. - The portrait of the author by Laszlo mentioned on the title page refers to the first volume of the series. This novel constitutes the fourth volume of the author’s works published by Georges Richard between 1906 and 1912. - Cover and spine bound in. Occasional inconspicuous small foxing spots. A very fine copy. Dark blue full morocco with rich gilt on spine and covers in Art Nouveau style, blind-stamped corner fleurons featuring passion flowers.
