One of 1,500 numbered copies. – Carteret V, 157 – French edition of Kay Nielsen’s masterpiece, a collection of Scandinavian folk tales. The colour plates and pen-and-ink drawings contained therein are still regarded today as milestones in the art of bookmaking. Nielsen’s style was radically modern for its time, a fusion of Art Nouveau and Japanese woodblock prints. - A further colour plate by the artist from another illustrated work is included.
