Modern Photography. - First and only edition. - “Chargesheimer was one of the most prolific German photographers of the 1950s and 60s, a portraitist and member of the Fotoform group, who also worked for the resurgent German illustrated press before the rise of television changed magazine photography irrevocably. ‘Köln 5 Uhr 30’ (Cologne 5.30), however, is not so much a journalistic document as a photographer’s personal project, probably inspired by Chargesheimer’s fascination with the deserted early-morning city, and possibly also as a trial run for one of the wide-angle lenses – 21 mm or 24 mm – which had recently been introduced and were popular with photographers of the time.” This lot is subject to standard tax.
