Lörinczy, György
New York, New York. With 96 photographs and 2 blue transparencies. Budapest, Magyar Helikon, 1972. 98 pp., 4°. Hardback with illustrated original dust jacket (slightly rubbed).
First edition. – Parr, The Photobook, I, pp. 262–63. - Lörinczy (1935–1981) is one of the most important Hungarian photographers of the post-war period. The photographs date from his time in New York’s East Village in 1968, which he published in 1972 with Magyar Helikon under difficult circumstances. The volume is regarded as the most important Hungarian photobook of its time; it incorporates influences from Pop Art and impressively reflects life in New York through experimental photomontages. After a brief stay in Germany, Lörinczy emigrated to New York in 1972. Very rare. A good copy.
First edition. – Contains 96 photographs and 2 blue-printed tissue guards. Cloth-bound with original dust jacket (slightly rubbed). – “György’s style is rough, raw and uninhibited, in the best stream-of-consciousness manner…This excited, carefree, though not naïve view of New York makes a refreshing change from the inbred cynicism of the streetwise native… György’s perspective clearly has affinities with that of William Klein, but his manic exuberance seems to run on pure energy” (See Parr). The most important Hungarian photobook of its time. The book draws on influences from Pop Art and impressively reflects life and the city of New York through experimental photomontages. Lörinczy moved to New York in 1972. Very rare. Good copy
