Large 8°. 4 loose sheets in an illustrated cardboard folder (slightly bumped and slightly browned). First edition, rare. – Koetzle pp. 344–45 - Pécsi was one of the defining figures of Hungarian photography and founded the country’s first school of photography in 1913. His series of nudes were internationally influential and paved the way for later Hungarian world stars of photography such as Brassaï and André Kertész. The images utilise the technique of heliogravure (copperplate printing), which lends the photographs a soft, velvety, almost painterly aesthetic (classical pictorialism). At the same time, the bold use of light, the clear forms and the sometimes unconventional, geometric poses already point the way towards New Objectivity and the modernist avant-garde of the 1920s. 12 copper engravings from the ‘Female Files’ based on original photographs by Prof. Josef Pécsi. – Loose sheets in an illustrated cardboard folder (slightly scuffed and slightly browned).
