The reproductions bring together Picasso’s spontaneous and extremely vibrant drawings of bullfighters, horses, bulls and the dramatic moments of the corrida; Jaime Sabartés, Picasso’s long-standing friend, confidant and secretary, contributed the accompanying text. The French edition was published simultaneously with the foreign-language editions. Of particular significance are the four original chalk lithographs created especially for this work and printed by Mourlot Frères in Paris: *La Pique*, *Le Picador II*, *Jeu de la Cape* and *Les Banderilles*. Three plates are printed in black; *Les Banderilles* appears as an elaborate colour lithograph in 24 colours and black. The text and illustrations were printed by Draeger Frères, whilst the original lithographs were printed by Mourlot. – A fine copy.
