Architecture Pogány, Móric Dreams of a Master Builder. Foreword by Max Reinhardt. Leipzig, Berlin, Vienna, Friedrich Ernst Hübsch, (1926). 4°. 11 pp., 39 plates. Original cloth binding with gold lettering (stained). First edition. – With a handwritten dedication by the author to the critic Lajos Bálint. First edition of the pen-and-ink drawings by the Hungarian architect Móric Pogány (born Schau, 1878 Nagyenyed – 1942 Budapest). The work was published in the ‘Neue Werkkunst’ series. It contains a foreword by Max Reinhardt. Pogány was one of Budapest’s best-known architects. Together with Emil Tory, he designed, amongst other things, the Hungarian Pavilion at the 1911 Turin World Exhibition. Together with Tory, he also won first prize in the competition for the National Theatre in Budapest. The volume was published in 1926, the same year in which his Batthyány eternal flame was erected in Budapest. Provenance: This inscribed copy was presented to Lajos Bálint. Bálint was a theatre critic, dramaturg and translator. From 1910, he wrote for the *Magyar Hírlap* and, from 1915, served as dramaturg at the National Theatre in Budapest. The connection to the National Theatre, for which Pogány had submitted an award-winning design, and Reinhardt’s foreword make the dedication thematically coherent.
