Ritzer E 27. – First edition of the third publication, which was already very rare during Rilke’s lifetime, still credited to René Maria Rilke. – The poet’s second book, published as early as Christmas 1895, but backdated to 1896. The cream-coloured cover bears a blue-printed vignette, signed ‘Vally’ – by Valerie von David-Rhonfeld (1874–1947), Rilke’s fiancée at the time. The cycle, dedicated to his birthplace, Prague, brings together poems on Hradčany and St Vitus Cathedral, Lesser Town, parks, fountains and the Jewish cemetery, Rabbi Löw and the Thirty Years’ War – an early, culturally and historically as well as literarily remarkable view of the ‘Golden City’ around 1895. At the end is the advertisement for the even rarer *Wegwarten*. 1 leaf with a discreetly restored tear. With the original cover label from the original paperback enclosed. – A good copy.
