Description
Schnitzler, Arthur
Álarcok és csodák (The Companion). Budapest, 1919. 114 pp. Illustrated. Original paperback (original paper cover).
First Hungarian edition. – This volume brings together five stories from Schnitzler’s *Masks and Miracles* (1912): ‘A pásztorfurulya’ (The Shepherd’s Flute), ‘Az agglegény halála’ (The Death of the Bachelor), ‘A gyilkos’ (The Murderer), ‘Redegonda naplója’ (Redegonda’s Diary) and ‘A három intés’ (The Triple Warning). It was published by József Bródy in Budapest. ‘Die Gefährtin’ (1899) is a standalone one-act play and is not part of this volume. Arthur Schnitzler (Vienna 1862–1931) was a doctor and playwright and is regarded as one of the most important figures of Viennese Modernism. The cover features an illustration by Zoltán Kónya. His early style has its roots in the Art Nouveau movement of the 1910s and features decorative typography, clean lines and bold colours.
