Dark blue morocco with gold-stamped title on the spine, with an inner mirror and endpapers in veneer, in half-leather. Comes with a slipcase featuring a veneer inlay and a further lined slipcase in veneer. With deckle edges and gilt head. Dust jacket bound in. Signed: Lucie Weill. (Minor scuffing). One of 120 copies of the special edition on Rives paper. – Copy for Lucie Weill. - The maritime theme of Vercel’s novel was brought to life by the Vietnamese-born French painter René Genis in 30 vibrantly coloured lithographs. The matching deep-blue morocco binding was created by the Parisian bookseller, gallery owner and publisher Lucie Weill. Together with the veneer wood panels, this ties in thematically with the book’s subject matter. She worked as a bookbinder until 1978. - Minimal transfer marks from the lithographs. Some foxing along the edges. With richly coloured lithographs. Overall, a very well-preserved copy with a magnificent binding. With 30 mostly full-page colour lithographs.
