To the West African islands aboard the cruiser ‘Köln’ in 1930 / Cruiser ‘Köln’ (subtitle). Collection comprising a total of 392 OPhotographs. Vintages. Silver gelatine prints. 1930/1932–1933. Various formats ranging from approx. 6 x 9 to 9.5 x 14.5 cm. Mounted and arranged in 2 contemporary albums (1 by B. Drüppel, Wilhelmshaven). Landscape folio, half-leather and cloth binding with gold-stamped title, coloured coat of arms and cord fastening (slightly worn).
Contains: Album (1930) with 97 prints, each with a handwritten description and number, including Gibraltar, Las Palmas, Cape Verde, Atalaya, the harbour district of Porto Grande, the salute from the ‘Karlsruhe’ on entering Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz (harbour, Museo Municipal), indigenous locals pounding maize and panning for gold, agriculture, a carabinero, Pico del Teide, Vigo (DO-X, fish market), street scenes, ‘Emden’. – Album containing 295 photographs, some of which are labelled on the reverse and below handwritten captions from Spain (Caraminal), Italy (Messina), Egypt (Alexandria, Cairo, Pyramids, Port Said), Indonesia (Sabang (main street, village, market square)), Australia (Melbourne, Sydney), Rabaul, Guam, Kobe (Japan), Tsingtau, locals and indigenous people, ship christening, etc. – Inside cover and silk slip partly featuring mounted photographs from a typewritten travelogue. - Photographs partly on Agfa Lupex photographic paper, some bearing the stamp ‘Drogen-Meyer Wilhelmshaven’ on the reverse. - A few photographs have been removed. - Some have faded and lost their silver, but overall in good condition.
