Description
Great Britain The Balmoral Album. With a chromolithographed title page, 10 chromolithographed album pages and a total of 34 inserted portrait photographs (vintage prints, albumen prints, CdVs and cabs). Circa 1880–1895. 4°. Blind-stamped contemporary leather binding with a lily motif, gilt edges and metal clasp (worn, bumped, block broken, spine missing). The decoratively designed album pages feature display windows entwined with flowers, as well as nature and landscape motifs, including views of Scottish castles and palaces (Balmoral, Invergarry, Dudhope, Broughty and Kilchurn Castle, Melrose, Kelso and Dryburgh Abbey, Lochnagar, etc.). - The portraits (by C. Vandyk, Clarke & Clarke, Elliot & Fry, A&G Taylor and others in London) mostly depict men (including, presumably, two clergymen and a gentleman wearing a medal and an official or (Masonic?) chain), three children and two ladies. - Without the music box that was once fitted into the back cover. - Display windows at the edges partly with discolouration, pages partly slightly dusty, photographs partly slightly stained, otherwise generally well preserved.
