Description
Israel – Palestine – Jerusalem A collection of 89 items, comprising 35 colour glass slides featuring photographs from a journey through Palestine (61) and images of works of art with religious motifs (28). No place (including Leipzig and Jerusalem), including Hentschel (20), undated (c. 1905). 8.5 x 8.5 cm or 10 x 8.5 cm. Each is sandwiched between two chlorobromide silver plates in a narrow black paper frame and bears handwritten or printed numbering and descriptions on paper labels mounted either between the plates or on the outside. Loosely inserted or placed in one wooden box and two cardboard boxes (one of which bears a label from Perutz, Trockenplatten-Fabrik, Munich) of the period (buffed, scuffed). An extensive, unique collection featuring impressive private photographs from Palestine circa 1900. – The 61 travel slides depict views, buildings and street scenes from and in, amongst others, Bethlehem, Jerusalem and Jaffa, as well as (groups of) people, mostly Arab locals. Included is an eight-page fragment of an undated travelogue, written in black ink on two lined double sheets. – 20 of the slides bear labels from ‘Kunst-Verlag Bruno Hentschel, Leipzig’. Bruno Hentschel, who had been in business in Leipzig since 1890, had operated a branch in Jerusalem since the turn of the century. - In good condition. Israel – Palestine – Jerusalem. - An extensive and unique collection featuring impressive private photographs from Palestine circa 1900. - The 61 travel slides depict views, buildings and street scenes of and in, amongst other places, Bethlehem, Jerusalem and Jaffa, as well as (groups of) people, mostly from the Arab population. Included is an eight-page fragment of an undated travelogue, written in black ink on two lined sheets of paper. - 20 of the slides bear labels from ‘Art Publisher Bruno Hentschel, Leipzig’. Bruno Hentschel, based in Leipzig since 1890, operated a branch in Jerusalem from the turn of the century. - Well preserved.
