Zborski, Andryej
Portrait of the composer Igor Stravinsky. Vintage. Silver gelatine print. Poland, 1960s. Bears the studio or photographer’s stamp on the reverse. Dimensions 18 x 24 cm.
Portrait of the Russian-American composer Igor Stravinsky (1882–1971) by the Warsaw-based photographer Andrzej Zborski. The print was produced in Poland in the 1960s. It bears the photographer’s stamp on the reverse. The spelling ‘Andryej’ in the source text is presumably a spelling mistake. The artist is known as Andrzej Zborski. Zborski was born in Warsaw in 1929 and died there in 2017. He was a member of the Association of Polish Photographic Artists (ZPAF). He became best known for his documentary photographs of the architecture of post-war Warsaw. He also photographed musicians from the jazz scene, including Stan Getz, Krzysztof Komeda and Tomasz Stanko. These images appeared on record covers. In 1966, he made his debut with the solo exhibition ‘Tematy muzyczne’ (Musical Themes) at the Kordegarda in Warsaw. It was subsequently shown in other Polish cities and in Bucharest. The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw holds works by him.
