A collection of approx. 84 large-format photographs, mostly taken in Germany. Vintage prints. Albumen prints. Circa 1880. Various formats ranging from approx. 17.5 x 22.5 to 31 x 26.5 cm. Each mounted on paper, some with a passe-partout. Includes photographs by Edouard Fietta, Francis Frith, Carl Hertel, A. Varady and others from Basel (Brücke), Dresden (Brühlsche Terrasse, Gallery of Old Masters, Zwinger), Frankfurt am Main (Main Synagogue, Judengasse, Römerberg, Eschenheimer Tor, Gutenberg Monument, Alte Oper, Kaiserstraße, Rothschild family home, Luther House, Palmengarten), Heidelberg (Castle, Haus zum Ritter), Leipzig (Old Stock Exchange), Strasbourg (Cathedral (view of the astronomical clock/west façade)), Wiesbaden (Old Synagogue on Michelsberg, Marktkirche) etc., including a shopfront view of Philip Gottschalk’s ‘Optiska Bazar’. - 11 prints with the blind stamp ‘Frith’s Series’. - 11 prints (some) tinted blue. - Also included: approx. 12 albumen prints of paintings (Raphael) and similar, as well as 7 chromolithographs with views (by August Schliecker and others) on the reverse. - Some are browned and stained, with traces of glue; occasionally slightly silvered; the backing paper is in places torn and stained; otherwise generally well preserved.
