Spangenberg, August Gottlieb A biography of Lord Nicolaus Ludwig, Count and Lord of Zinzendorf and Pottendorf. 8 parts and an index in 6 volumes. With an engraved frontispiece portrait. (Barby), found in the *Bruder-Gemeinen* (1772)–1775. Contemporary paper with handwritten title page (stained, browned, rubbed and bumped). First edition. – Goedeke III, 203. – The first and, at the same time, most detailed biography of the founder of the Herrnhut Brethren, as well as an important source on the history of the Herrnhut Brethren. - Spangenberg was Zinzendorf’s closest collaborator and successor as bishop of the Moravian Church and organiser of the Unitarian provinces in North America and England. Zinzendorf called him the ‘Theologus unitatis’. - “Includes accounts of Count Zinzendorf’s visit to St Thomas, W.I., New York, and Pennsylvania” (Sabin 88931). - Each copy bears an ex-libris featuring the coat of arms of Auguste, Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (née Princess of Hesse-Homburg). - Front endpapers partly with marginal notes; a deaccessioned copy from the Schwerin Public Library bearing stamps; in good overall condition.
