Description
Medicine
29 original silver gelatine prints of people with pathological deformities. O. O. (Hungary), 1910. Approx. 16.5 x 11.4 cm to 8 x 4.5 cm.
The photographs mostly depict men and boys of various ages, presumably some of whom were inmates of psychiatric institutions, with various anatomical abnormalities (vitiligo, multiple fibromas and other skin conditions, tissue enlargements). The prints are mostly mounted on card or thicker paper of various sizes and colours; three of the photographs feature repeated motifs, whilst several others are labelled and dated in Hungarian in pencil on the reverse. One photograph, more precisely described on the front, is of a forensic nature, depicting a head with a bullet hole. – Some of the prints are slightly silver-stained at the edges, with tears along the margins and some discolouration; for the most part, these are sharp, high-contrast prints from what is likely a unique collection.
