He provided doctors and aspiring chemists with systematic, step-by-step methods for independently analysing blood and urine in the laboratory. Rees realised early on that the composition of urine depends directly on the chemical processes taking place in the blood. By combining the analysis of both fluids into a single volume, he laid the foundations for the modern understanding of human metabolism and kidney function. - Slightly stained in places; bookplate on the inside cover.
