Palaeontology Quenstedt, Friedrich August The mastodons in the Green Keuper sandstones of Württemberg are amphibians. With 4 copper plates. Tübingen, H. Laupp’s Bookshop, 1850. 1 leaf, 34 pp. Folio. Original cloth binding with German title (rubbed, bumped, slightly stained). Very rare. – A treatise by the eminent German palaeontologist and geologist Friedrich August Quenstedt (1809–1889) on the Mastodonsaurus discovered in Württemberg. A tooth of the dinosaur was first found in 1824. The Mastodonsaurus, which lived during the Triassic period, was named by Georg Friedrich von Jäger. In his work, Quenstedt attempts to demonstrate that the Mastodonsaurus is related to contemporary amphibians, whilst at the same time resembling reptiles such as crocodiles in appearance. - Some foxing. Generally well preserved. Palaeontology – With 4 copper plates.
