With an ex-libris by Thomas Schöttler. - A work on the various genera of reptiles by the German zoologist and illustrator Michael Oppel (1782–1820). Having attracted the attention of wealthy patrons through his illustrations, he was awarded a scholarship to study in Paris. There he worked as an assistant to the eminent naturalist André Marie Constant Duméril and became acquainted with other notable figures, including Alexander von Humboldt. He worked as an illustrator for some of these new acquaintances. - Slightly foxed. Overall in very good condition.
