Vellard’s five-part monograph series ‘Estudios sobre batracios andinos’, published over a period of eight years in the *Memorias* of the Museo de Historia Natural ‘Javier Prado’ in Lima, of which Vellard was director from 1947 to 1956. The series deals consecutively with the most important Andean amphibian genera: from Telmatobius (Parts I and III) via Pleurodema/marmoratus forms (Part II) to the tree frog genus Gastrotheca (Part IV) and the toads of the genus Bufo (Part V, in which Vellard, amongst other things, described the taxon Rhinella vellardi, named after him). This volume thus brings together Vellard’s entire fundamental taxonomic and biogeographical study of the high Andean amphibians in a single volume – a key reference work for South American herpetology. - The fourth volume of the IFEA series supplements the zoological series with Vellard’s ecological field study of the Titicaca Telmatobius populations, as well as an ethnographic and folkloristic work on the dances of the Altiplano - The result of his many years of multidisciplinary field research at Lake Titicaca (1951–1961, in a total of nine parts).
