Zoology – Ornithology Prêtre, after Jean-Gabriel Set of 3 coloured copperplate engravings by Bouquet after Prêtre. Circa 1800. Coloured copperplate engraving on vellum. 23 x 30 cm (28 x 39). Loose under a passe-partout. These finely lined copperplate engravings were produced by the engraver Bouquet based on illustrations by the natural history artist Jean-Gabriel Prêtre. Each is numbered in the upper corner and depicts three different species of bird. – Some show minimal foxing. Overall, well-preserved, colourfully rendered copperplate engravings. - Also included: 20 colour lithographs of Swedish birds. Circa 1900. Lithograph on vellum. 26.5 x 37.5 cm. - From the Wright brothers’ books on Swedish ornithology. - Edges slightly browned. Generally well preserved. Ornithology. - Collection of 3 coloured engravings by Bouquet after Prêtre. Circa 1800. Coloured copperplate engraving on wove paper. Loose under a passe-partout. - The fine-line engravings were produced by the engraver Bouquet after illustrations by the naturalist painter Jean-Gabriel Prêtre.
