The Birds of German East Africa. With 108 illustrations printed in the text, drawn from life by Anna Held, 44 of which are coloured. Berlin, D. Reimer, 1894. 2 leaves, 250 pp., 1 leaf in 4° format. Cloth binding with black-stamped title on the spine. Head edges coloured (rubbed and bumped; cloth binding slightly soiled in places).
Rare edition. – Nissen IVB 770. – Offprint of the corresponding section of Volume 3 (‘Die Thierwelt Ost-Afrikas’, ed. by K. Mobius) of the rare series ‘Deutsch-Ostafrika’. - Georg Anton Eugen Reichenow (1847–1941) was a German ornithologist and avian taxonomist. Reichenow’s first encounter with African fauna came during his own research expedition to the west coast of the continent. However, he was forced to cut this short due to illness. His research into the birds of East Africa was based on two private collections of birds brought back from the region. He was later appointed editor-in-chief of the *Journal of Ornithology*. – Some foxing; paper edges slightly browned. With annotations. Detailed illustrations. Colour plates in rich hues. In good overall condition.
