Description
Circus – Variety Show A collection of approximately 60 signed portrait and scene photographs (including original photographs taken by the theatre manager) of performers from the Saalfelder Palast Theatre, compiled and arranged by the theatre manager Kurt Breker. Mainly photographs, some printed postcards, lithographs and drawings. 1951–1954. Mounted in an original hardback album (slightly worn) with the title on the cover: ‘Our Stage Artists: Palast Theatre, Saalfeld/S’. Originally, the Palast Theatre in Saalfeld (founded in 1914) was solely a cinema. During the GDR era, the Palast Theatre in Saalfeld was not only used as a cinema, but also served extensively as a venue for touring theatre productions, variety shows and stage performers. The album provides extensive, chronologically organised documentation of the variety programme from 1951 to 1954. It includes dedications, acknowledgements and greetings (mostly addressed to the theatre manager, K. Breker) from artists who performed at the Palast Theatre during the period in question. These include dancers, singers, jugglers, comedians, athletes and others. Among the artists: 4 Malividas, Jos. Ebers, 5 Metropolis, Roswitha and René, 2 Hessos, Torini, the Bali Sisters, 2 Rudellis, H. Reimann, Omer Sait with Peti, 2 Carytas, 3 Perkins, P. Caprano and many more. A collection of around 60 signed portrait photographs of artists from the Saalfelder Palast-Theater. Mostly original photographs, some printed postcards, lithographs and drawings. – Slight signs of wear.
