Description
SEVRES A baluster vase in new hard-paste porcelain, probably in the Diderot style, decorated with blue crystalline enamels featuring frosted floral motifs on an ochre background. Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, 1922 Black stamped mark with ‘S’ and ‘DN’, dated 1922, on the inner neck; incised marks dated May 1922 on the reverse. H. 64 cm History: The crystallisation technique was developed around 1882 in the Sèvres Manufactory’s laboratory, but it was not immediately adopted in the decoration workshops. Taking a bolder approach, the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Factory began using this discovery as early as 1883 to create an aesthetic effect and set a trend. In 1990, at the Paris World’s Fair, the porcelain manufacturers of Copenhagen, Berlin, Meissen and Sèvres displayed crystallised pieces on their stands. All demonstrated a perfect mastery of the firing of the enamel, which consists notably of zinc. The glaze replicates a natural phenomenon found in the mineral world: marcasite stars, malachite nodules, desert roses and frost flowers. Expert: Maxime Charron’s Practice
