Description
No. 55 – PIETERTJE VRIEND WAGENAAR (Nicholas J. Friend 1996).
‘A spontaneous hybrid discovered amongst “Kansas” and “Sarah Bernhardt” peonies in my commercial peony nursery. The plant is identical to ‘Kansas’: red buds, sturdy stems. The flowers are the same shade as ‘Sarah Bernhardt’, perhaps a little lighter. The flower is speckled. The foliage is dark green. Named in honour of my mother.” Nicholas Friend. One of my favourites! It looks as though a Pointillist from the Belle Époque has been having a bit of fun. Very floriferous, stands very upright, with dark green foliage that brings out the many shades of pink in this very, very beautiful flower.
