Text from the President of the Hotchkiss Club, to whom we extend our thanks:
A very fine Hotchkiss Artois 864 S49, presented in its elegant ‘iridescent grey’ livery, a colour featured in the period colour chart.
Its former registration number, 6429 AR 13, bears witness to its history in the Bouches-du-Rhône department.
The bodywork is in particularly sound condition and is in very good overall condition. Apart from a few superficial scratches and a slight patina from age, the paintwork, which is likely to be original, remains well preserved.
There are no apparent signs of corrosion on the doors or wings, nor any evidence of bodywork repairs. The doors open and close perfectly, with no noticeable play, indicating that the wooden frame is well preserved.
The interior retains a remarkable degree of authenticity. All the interior fittings are complete and show no significant wear: handles, levers and pull-strings are all present. The wooden dashboard is intact and retains all its original buttons and controls.
The original beige cloth upholstery is in excellent condition. The seats, piping, door panels and headlining show no significant wear, reflecting the careful attention paid to the vehicle by its successive owners.
The engine bay is in particularly good condition, with no apparent corrosion, and is in a very fine state of preservation.
Given its overall condition and subject to the usual mechanical checks, it could be considered for restoration to running order under favourable conditions.
This Hotchkiss Artois 864 S49 is a fine example of a pre-war French car, appealing for its authenticity, its rare iridescent grey paintwork and its remarkable state of preservation. A classic car that deserves to be preserved in its original condition.
