Notes:
‘The forerunner of the famous Jaguar E-Type, the S.S. 100 was a relatively inexpensive sports car given its attractive styling and performance. The six-cylinder engine was built by the Standard Motor Company exclusively for the S.S. Group.
Featuring overhead valves operated by rocker arms and a seven-bearing crankshaft, the standard production version produced 125 CV at 4,250 rpm. The bore of 82 mm and a stroke of 110 mm resulted in a displacement of 3,485 cm³. The top three gears of the four-speed gearbox were synchronised. It reached 96 km/h in under 10 seconds and had a top speed of 160 km/h. It was in a car of this type that Ian Appleyard won the Rallye des Alpes in 1948. It was the first to bear the name Jaguar. Production of the model was not resumed after the war, but its engine was used in the Mark IV and later the Mark V models.”
