A rare and elegant expression of Pininfarina's design genius.
A rare and elegant expression of Pininfarina's design genius.
- Presented and acclaimed at the Turin Motor Show in 1971, where it received the Style Auto magazine Award, the Fiat 130 Coupé was born of Gianni Agnelli's desire to prove that Fiat could compete at the top end of the range and offer a credible alternative to its German rivals. Derived from the 130 saloon, it took its technical base and powertrain and enhanced them with styling by Pininfarina.
- Despite its undeniable qualities, its still-popular brand image and high export taxes hampered its commercial success. Only 4,491 coupés were produced between 1971 and 1977, of which just 170 were destined for the French market, making this model an extremely rare and sought-after car today.
- A pre-production model, our car was one of the very first produced and was registered "TO F22438" in July 1971 in the name of the Fiat Group's design and research department. It is one of a dozen or so coupés kept by the Turin factory for its communication and staff, before being resold - with the notable exception of this one, which was not sold until 1981 to its second owner.
- According to its previous Italian owner, a former Fiat parts supplier, the factory kept it for Gianni Agnelli's personal use, before he bought it himself. Initially painted in Silver Indianapolis 605 for press photos, it was then repainted in this superb coral shade. Its current French owner acquired it in Turin in 2018 from its third owner.
- Aware of the historical importance of this 'pre-production' 130 coupé, he chose to preserve it in its original condition, while undertaking a complete mechanical restoration entrusted to Italian specialist Salvatore Scibilia. The paintwork has been polished, the exhaust system redone and the silencer recently replaced. Already rare in its mechanical box version, this authentic and well-documented example is a true icon of Italian design, signed Paolo Martin for Pininfarina. A car to be rediscovered as a matter of urgency!
