4x4, 22,500 km and in mint condition: definitely the most beautiful Mehari we have ever featured!
- The idea of developing a popular car that could carry 4 people and was economical to run and maintain dates back to 1935. It was from these specifications that the Citroën 2CV was born in 1948, with more than 5 million units produced.
- In 1961, in response to a call for tenders from CFP Total, the engineers from the Quai de Javel presented a confidential 2CV Sahara with 4-wheel drive, 2 engines and two gearboxes. It seemed obvious to go even further in the search for versatility in this ready-for-anything car, and Comte Roland de La Poype designed a robust car with an ABS body based on the proven mechanics of the 2CV.
- Known as the "Mehari", 144,953 of these cars were produced in Belgium between 1968 and 1987. In 1979, the 4-wheel drive model was presented, and its first customer was the French army. While the engine was identical to the mass-produced model, the gearbox was fitted with a reduction gearbox to give the car unprecedented cross-country capability. Produced in 1,213 units until 1983, Citroën's 4x4 'dromedary' is a car that stands up to all tests.
- The example that illustrates these pages is exceptional in more ways than one. Firstly, because of its history, since the car remained in the same family until 2020 (original registration certificate enclosed). Secondly, because it has just 22,500 km and only 9 hours of 4-wheel drive. The chassis and engine compartment are original, while the bodywork has been repainted, like the trellis supporting the rear tub. The seats and soft top are also new and very well made.
- Please note that even if this was an option, it is rare for a Mehari not to be fitted with a bonnet and spare wheel! Our example is one of them. If you're looking for the perfect Mehari, you've found it...
- The project to develop a popular, practical car that could carry four people and was economical to run and maintain dates back to 1935. These specifications led to the creation in 1948 of a cult car that went on to sell more than five million units: the Citroën 2CV.
- In response to a call for tenders from CFP Total, engineers at Quai de Javel presented a confidential 2CV Sahara with four-wheel drive, two engines and two gearboxes in 1961. It became clear that the search for versatility in this versatile car should be taken even further, and Count Roland de La Poype developed a robust car with ABS bodywork that incorporated the proven mechanics of the 2CV.
- Known as the 'Méhari', 144,953 units of the car were produced in Belgium between 1968 and 1987. In 1979, the four-wheel drive model was unveiled, with the French army as its first customer. Although the engine was identical to the mass-produced model, the gearbox had a reduction gear to allow for exceptional off-road capabilities. Manufactured until 1983, with 1,213 units produced, Citroën's 4x4 'dromedary' was a car that could withstand any challenge.
- The model featured on these pages is exceptional in more ways than one. Firstly, because of its history, as the car remained in the same family until 2020 (original registration document included in the file). Secondly, because it has only clocked up 22,500 km and only 9 hours of four-wheel drive operation. Finally, it is in stunning original condition: the chassis and engine compartment are original, while the bodywork has been repainted, as has the mesh supporting the rear tub. The seats and soft top are also new and of very good quality.
- Please note that even though it was an option, very few Méharis were not equipped with a bonnet with a spare wheel! Ours is one of them. If you are looking for the perfect Méhari, you have found it...
