Description
FERRARI - 208 GTB by Pininfarina - Year: 1981 • French vehicle registration document • Chassis number: F106CB 36587 • Engine number: 00196 • Delivered new in Italy • 1,991 cm³ naturally aspirated V8 engine • Bodywork designed by Pininfarina • 160 units produced • Service history book • Current mileage: 69,428 (not guaranteed) Unveiled in 1980, the Ferrari 208 GTB is one of the rarest and most distinctive variants of the famous family of mid-engined V8 Ferrari berlinettas. Directly derived from the 308 GTB, it was created to meet a specific demand in the Italian market. Ferrari therefore developed a special version of its V8 engine, reduced to 1,991 cm³. Mounted transversely in a rear-mid position, the naturally aspirated twin-cam V8 produced 155 ch. Powered by four Weber carburettors and paired with a five-speed manual gearbox operated via the legendary H-pattern gearselector, Ferrari thus endowed the 208 GTB with a resolutely sporty mechanical set-up. More than just a quest for absolute performance, this first 208 appeals today through the purity of its design: a naturally aspirated engine, carburettors, a manual gearbox and the absence of electronic gadgets are the hallmarks of a grand touring berlinetta in the most traditional Ferrari sense The bodywork, meanwhile, echoes the masterful lines of the 308 GTB, designed by Leonardo Fioravanti for Pininfarina. A wedge-shaped profile, pop-up headlights, side air intakes and four circular rear lights combine to create an instantly recognisable silhouette, which became one of Ferrari’s aesthetic hallmarks from the second half of the 1970s onwards. The naturally aspirated 208 GTB is a rarity that enjoyed a particularly short production run. With only 160 examples produced, it remains a highly exclusive car. As early as 1982, Ferrari introduced its successor, the 208 GTB Turbo. The example we are presenting for sale bears chassis number F106CB 36587 and engine number 00196. It was sold new in Italy on 7 April 1981 by the dealer Walter Bordese S.R.L. in Turin, as evidenced by its service history (warranty booklet and maintenance schedule). The car is finished in the iconic Rosso Corsa livery, combined with an elegant interior upholstered in beige leather and red carpets – a combination particularly characteristic of Ferraris from this period. This car is in excellent condition, with the bodywork, paintwork and upholstery all in fine order. It underwent a major service in 2024 at a cost of 6,500 euros.
