Description
1971 Alpine A110 1600 S No reserve Manufacturer: 1971 Alpine A110 1600 S Model: No reserve Chassis No.: Chassis No. 17382 Engine No. 821-02-242503 - Formerly entered in the Rallye delle Valli in 1976 and 1977 - Attractive Group 3 specification - One spare engine and four spare wheels - No reserve This 1600 S Berlinette was sold new in Italy. As confirmed to us by the Alpine historian, Gilles Vallerian has confirmed, it was invoiced in 1971 at 20,615 francs, just like the half-dozen other 1600s sent to Italy at the same time; this corresponds to the French price plus a 15 per cent commission charged by Renault Italy. This amount corresponded to a strictly standard production car. The Berlinette subsequently changed hands regularly in Italy, and it was entered in competitions very early on: the 1976 Rallye delle Valli driven by Ranzato Carlino, and the following year’s event with Franz Schreiner. Six registrations have been recorded up to the current one, which dates from 1987, and whose libretto has since listed the various owners, including the current owner who acquired it in 2009. Retaining the specifications typical of Group 3 cars, it features a Type 353 gearbox and Gotti ‘Monte Carlo’ number 7 detachable rims; it still has its original ‘small’ wings, as well as the ‘Plastia’ seats, which were offered as an option from 1972 onwards. Still in its original Alpine blue paintwork (ref. 331), it is fitted with a bolted-on roll cage, and its original engine has been replaced by an 821-02 block (an aluminium block from the Renault 16 with the same displacement as the 1600 S), carefully prepared as required, with two Weber 45 DCOE carburettors. The car will also be supplied with a second aluminium engine, type 807-20, and four aluminium wheels. In good working order, this ‘berlinette’ – which seems never to have stopped racing – is in its original condition and retains the marks of its various racing periods. It comes with its ASI certificate and an Italian technical passport dated 2018. It is worth noting that the 1600 S remains the most desirable and highest-performing of the A110s; those that raced in their day are the most sought-after. Italian title Chassis no. 17382 Engine no. 821-02-242503 - Formerly entered in the 1976 & 1977 Rally due Valli - Attractive Group 3 specification - Second engine and set of 4 wheels - No reserve 1971 Alpine A110 1600 S This 1600 S berlinette was sold new in Italy. This figure applied to a strictly standard car. The berlinette subsequently changed hands several times in Italy and was soon to be seen in competition: it was entered in the Rally due Valli in 1976, driven by Ranzato Carlino, and by Franz Schreiner the following year. Records show six different registrations, up to the current one, which dates from 1987, and the ‘libretto’ lists its various owners, including the current one, who purchased the car in 2009. It has retained the specification typical of Group 3 cars and features a Type 353 gearbox and Gotti ‘Monte Carlo’ No. 7 split-rim wheels; it still has the original ‘narrow arches’ and the ‘Plastia’ seats, which were offered as an optional extra from 1972. Still finished in its original Alpine blue (ref. 331), it is fitted with a bolted roll cage, and its original engine has been replaced by an 821-02 block (an aluminium-alloy block from a Renault 16 with the same displacement as the 1600 S), meticulously prepared, just as it should be, with twin Weber 45 DCOE carburettors. In addition, the car will be sold with a second Type 807-20 aluminium engine and four alloy wheels. In good running order, this berlinette – which appears never to have stopped racing – is in its original, unrestored condition and still bears the marks of its various periods of competition. It comes with its ASI card and an Italian technical passport dated 2018. It should not be forgotten that the 1600 S remains the fastest and most desirable A110, and the cars that competed during that era are the most sought-after.
