1980 Citroën CX 2400 GTi
With the launch of the CX 2400 GTi in 1977, Citroën reclaimed a prominent position in the large saloon car category. Its design, comfort, the efficiency of its running gear, and now its performance made it a car of choice, with the early models featuring chrome bumpers now highly sought-after.
The example shown here is one such car; sold new on 25 January 1980 by Muller garage in Mulhouse, it still features the finishing touches that would disappear a few months later, such as the famous ‘ball’ ashtray. Its first owner had chosen the ‘Gris Vulcain’ (AC 080) colour, paired with a light brown cloth interior. A meticulous man, he regularly entrusted the car’s servicing to the garage that had sold it to him, as evidenced by the service booklet. This document, together with the MOT test records, confirms that the car has indeed clocked up 74,900 km from new. It was the first owner’s wife who gifted it to the current owner in 2014, knowing the meticulous care he would give it. The CX had 72,938 km on the clock at the time and has since undergone extensive work: a repaint in 2015, a new headliner, and a full mechanical service including the brakes and hydraulics… A file of invoices bears witness to this, and since 2018, routine maintenance and any necessary repairs have been carried out by Daunat garage. Ready to hit the road, this GTi with a crystal-clear history is now in impressive condition, with its gleaming bodywork and interior showing just a hint of patina; it combines the charm of the early models with modern performance: the best of both worlds!
