With the C6, Citroën revives a tradition that has helped write some of the finest chapters in its history: that of the great French luxury saloons. Following in the footsteps of the DS, CX and XM, the C6 combines a strong stylistic personality, sophisticated technology and that unrivalled sense of comfort which has always been one of the brand’s hallmarks. Long, low and sleek, the C6 possesses a truly commanding presence. Its long bonnet, flowing roofline, frameless doors and concave rear window create a silhouette that is both elegant and stately. This commanding presence naturally enabled it to take its place as comfortably in front of the palaces of the Republic as in business districts. The C6 was, in fact, quickly adopted in the highest echelons of government and the business world. Jacques Chirac, a great admirer of prestigious Citroëns and already a loyal owner of the CX Prestige, officially unveiled the C6 during the 14 July 2005 parade. Presidents of the Republic, ministers, senior officials and business leaders found this large French saloon to be a car particularly well-suited to official engagements: spacious, quiet, comfortable and boasting a design that exudes authority without ever verging on ostentation.
This purpose becomes fully apparent once you’re seated inside. The Hydractive hydropneumatic suspension gives the C6 a ride quality that remains one of its most remarkable features. The generous space, the attention paid to soundproofing and the comfort of the seats combine to create an atmosphere particularly suited to long journeys. The version we are presenting here even features separate, electrically adjustable rear seats, allowing for the creation of a genuine ‘Business Class’-style space.
In its V6 HDi 240 version, the C6 boasts a powertrain perfectly suited to its status. Its 3-litre six-cylinder engine develops 240 ch and 450 Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. Power is delivered smoothly and confidently, offering the acceleration and ease one would expect from a grand tourer designed to cover long distances quickly. Furthermore, the suspension and gearbox can be manually adjusted to ‘sport’ mode. And when it reaches a speed of 110 km/h, the rear spoiler raises automatically, providing unrivalled road holding.
The C6 we are presenting is exceptional for several reasons: its history, its provenance and its condition.
Its history and provenance are unique, as this C6 was originally delivered brand new to André Trigano. It was, in fact, his last car. André Trigano (1925–2024) was a visionary French entrepreneur who left a significant mark on the tourism sector as head of the Compagnie Internationale André Trigano. Alongside his industrial successes, he enjoyed a distinguished career in local and national politics, notably serving as Mayor of Pamiers and Member of Parliament for Ariège, amongst other roles. Alongside all his other activities, he always harboured a deep passion for motoring: he began his career as a racing and rally driver in the 1950s, notably taking part in the Tour de France Auto. Throughout his life, he had amassed an impressive collection of Citroëns and nearly 180 cars at his estate near Pamiers, which Artcurial Motorcars successfully sold in 2020. Throughout his career, he had made a point of purchasing brand-new saloon cars of all makes to satisfy all the car dealers in his town, of which he was the mayor.
It was only natural, then, that he purchased this luxurious C6 in December 2012 from the Citroën dealer in Pamiers; it was the top-of-the-range model and the most powerful version, featuring a V6 HDI engine producing 240 ch. He used it solely for journeys in Paris, between his home and his office. For this reason, the car has only 42,500 km on the clock today; in other words, it is in near-new condition. As he was driven by a chauffeur, André Trigano had opted for the ‘presidential package’ with separate, heated and adjustable rear seats, to ensure a more comfortable journey. The interior is in an impressive condition, with the superb havana leather upholstery and carpets having had no time to develop a patina. Servicing has been carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommended schedule. The car was acquired directly from the estate by the current owner, an Artcurial employee who had just sold his CX GTI Turbo 2 and was a close friend of André Trigano! Although it had only 36,000 km on the clock, he sent it to Citroën for a major service with instructions to restore it to as-new condition (invoice for €5,556 from Citroën Paris 11th arrondissement dated 13 March this year). On the current market, we have not found a C6 with such low mileage, in such a well-preserved condition and running so close to new, and, of course, with such a history! It will be handed over to its next owner with the original kit containing all its manuals as well as its service history book, a complete file with invoices and various handwritten documents.
The C6 remains Citroën’s last great flagship model, and this example offers a rare opportunity to acquire the very best that French motoring had to offer, in near-new condition. In its powerful V6 HDi 240 variant, it brilliantly embodies the French art of motoring, combining precise handling with that unique sensation of gliding over the road, all in unrivalled comfort.
