In Ferrari’s history, the Mondial Cabriolet occupies a truly unique place: launched in 1983, it was the first production Ferrari convertible to offer four seats. Even more remarkable, it remains the only production Ferrari to have combined a four-seater convertible body with a mid-rear-engined layout.
Initially offered in the Quattrovalvole version, then as the 3.2, the Mondial Cabriolet underwent its final and most significant evolution in 1989 with the Mondial t. This latest generation marked a genuine technical breakthrough and directly foreshadowed the Ferrari 348.
The letter ‘t’ refers to the new layout of its powertrain: the V8 is now mounted longitudinally, whilst the five-speed gearbox is mounted transversely, the two forming a ‘T’. This layout, carried over to the 348, notably lowers the centre of gravity and represents a major step forward compared with previous Mondial models.
Its naturally aspirated 3,405 cm³ V8 engine, with four valves per cylinder, produces 300 ch at 7,200 rpm. Coupled with the traditional Ferrari five-speed manual gearbox, it enables the Mondial T Cabriolet to reach 255 km/h. In addition to this performance, the car features power-assisted steering, ABS and controlled suspension, making this latest evolution of the Mondial a significantly more modern and enjoyable Ferrari to drive than its predecessors.
Yet it retains what makes it so unique: the sound of a naturally aspirated Ferrari V8 mounted behind its occupants, a manual gearbox, four seats and the chance to enjoy this engine with the top down.
The car on offer was first registered on 27 September 1990 in Rome by the renowned Ferrari SA dealership.MO.CAR S.p.A. It currently has just 58,600 km on the clock and still retains its original Roman number plates, particularly charming reminders of its Italian history. Its specification is equally remarkable. The bodywork is finished in the spectacular Giallo Modena, an extremely rare colour for a Mondial T Cabriolet. According to the information provided, only twelve examples are believed to have been delivered in this colour, making this car a particularly unusual configuration.
Its history is another of its key assets. The service book, regularly stamped, details its maintenance by SA.MO.CAR, which looked after the car from when it was first registered until 2021. That year, it was sold in Bolzano, in the far north of Italy, and entrusted to RAM Autoracing, which, amongst other things, carried out the distribution, as evidenced by the invoice.
In July 2026, the Ferrari was purchased by its last owner, Mrs Nicla Casagrande, who had it pass the Italian roadworthiness test (‘revisione’).
In September 2026, it was taken to the official Ferrari service centre, Maranello Service, resulting in a bill of over €4,000, which included, amongst other things, the replacement of the timing belt and both fuel pumps.
The air-conditioning system has also just undergone a complete overhaul, including work on the compressor, amounting to nearly €2,800 in labour costs, as evidenced by the invoices. The tyres have covered only around 1,000 km, whilst the leather and carpets were thoroughly cleaned in August 2026.
According to information provided by the owner, this Mondial T has never been involved in an accident and remains in its original specification. It will be supplied with its comprehensive history file and invoices, its service record book, a spare set of keys, its tool kit and its Ferrari leather luggage set.
Combining the most sophisticated engine in the Mondial line-up with a particularly rare colour scheme, this example benefits above all from a documented Roman provenance dating back to its origins and significant, very recent restoration work. This is a rare opportunity to acquire the final evolution of a car that will go down in history as the first four-seater open-top production Ferrari and the only four-seater mid-rear-engined convertible ever produced by the marque.
