Description
1967 Porsche 911 S short wheelbase
Manufacturer: 1967 Porsche 911 S short wheelbase
Vehicle registration document: German registration certificate
Chassis No.: Chassis No. 307344S
Engine No. 961292
- Rare short-wheelbase example
- Original engine, gearbox and Bahama Gelb paintwork
- Exceptional restoration in keeping with the original specifications
- Rare and interesting optional extras
This rare Porsche 911 S is one of 1,823 units produced in 1967 and, as part of the very first generation of the model, it features the short wheelbase (2,210 mm instead of 2,268 and later 2,271 mm), which makes it more manoeuvrable on winding roads, according to certain rally drivers, including the talented Vic Elford. As recorded in its Porsche certificate, it was sold new on 10 February 1967 by the Hahn garage in Stuttgart; it was painted in ‘Bahamagelb’ (code 6605) and featured several rare extras such as a Webasto auxiliary heater, a sunroof, a 100-litre fuel tank and an outside temperature gauge, as well as a car radio with an external aerial. It is still fitted with its original Type 901/02 6-cylinder engine and Type 901/02 gearbox, as confirmed by Porsche Deutschland.
As can be seen from an extensive photographic record, this rare 1967 911 S has undergone a complete restoration carried out by a German Porsche specialist, an expert on the model, who took particular care to preserve its originality and integrity using original parts. The result is impressive, and an inspection of the car on a lift demonstrated the care taken during the restoration and the fact that the car has seen very little use since the work was completed. Sold as part of an estate, it has very recently undergone a full service at the German specialist Stentenbach Classic, and can now be driven just as it was on the day it was first registered, allowing the driver to enjoy the authentic driving experience of this short-wheelbase, lightweight version.
Boasting the purity of a ‘short-wheelbase’ S version, its original mechanics, rare fittings, a splendid original colour and an exceptional state of restoration, this rare 911 S is one of the most sought-after examples of the model that propelled Porsche onto the international sporting stage whilst laying the foundations for a lineage that has continued to evolve to this day.
