When it was launched in 1989, Mercedes positioned the 500 SL at the pinnacle of the R129 range, equipped with a powerful 326 cv V8 engine and a wealth of features designed to enhance driving pleasure but also, and above all, to ensure safety.
The car on offer was purchased new by Guido Hommel, who registered it on 8 November 1991. He chose an elegant ‘black-blue metallic’ (ref. 199) for the upper part of the bodywork, paired with a lighter grey for the lower section, matching the colour of the leather in the interior. A glance at its ‘Datenkarte’ confirms that the engine is indeed the original one and details the long list of options it features: electric and heated front seats, illuminated vanity mirror, wind deflector, Becker Mexico 2000 car radio with antenna, electric windows, air conditioning, full heat-reflective glazing, headlamp washers, remote central locking…
The beautiful convertible was subsequently sold to a friend, from whom our collector bought it back in 2004 to keep it in his collection. With 149,816 km on the clock at the time of our inspection, this 500 SL still has its hardtop, warning triangle, original tool kit and jack. In good working order, it underwent a valuation in 2024 and is sure to delight enthusiasts of high-end Mercedes-Benz models.
