As indicated by its code plate, this ‘Pagode’ was produced for the Italian market. It was delivered new in 1968 with a dark green body colour (ref. 268H) and fitted with the sought-after optional power steering, combined with a floor-mounted control for the 4-speed automatic gearbox. It had already been registered in Germany since 1993 when Guido Hommel acquired it in 2014. The bodywork has been meticulously restored from the underbody upwards; the doors and windows are well aligned and the paintwork is of a high standard. All the body seals have been replaced and the chrome trim is in excellent condition. Inside, there is a magnificent, weathered brown interior, which complements the body colour perfectly. It is worth noting the practical third seat in the rear, positioned perpendicular to the road, and seatbelts for the front seats. The engine was entrusted to a former Mercedes mechanic for refurbishment, and wear-and-tear parts were replaced during reassembly where necessary. The car comes with its hardtop, as it should, and a Becker Monza Cassette car radio adorns the dashboard. This beautiful 280 SL was inspected in March 2024 and is ready to hit the road. Its colour scheme and power steering are sure to appeal to enthusiasts who appreciate elegance and driving comfort.
