According to its datenkarte, this 190 SL left the factory on 18 July 1961, in ‘Gris Blanc’ (ref. 158 G) with a parchment leather interior and black soft top. It was fitted with the optional third seat, positioned perpendicular to the road. Registered on 20 July of the same year, it passed through the hands of two German collectors between 1998 and 2010, when it was purchased by Guido Hommel. He was impressed by the quality of its bodywork and its superb interior in patinated green leather with matching carpets. Inspection of the car reveals a high-quality restoration carried out some time ago, with paintwork in the traditional grey shade. The chrome trim is in perfect condition and a pair of long wing vents adorn the front end. The restored soft top is also in excellent condition, and an optional hardtop in the same colour as the bodywork is included with the car, whose silhouette is enhanced by Michelin ZX tyres with white sidewalls. The engine has been reconditioned, and the original 121 921 engine block has been replaced by a 121 924 of identical displacement, fitted with a cylinder head featuring twin-barrel Solex carburettors, as is fitting for a 190 SL. Inside, in addition to the remarkable upholstery, there is a Becker Mexico car radio with a central speaker positioned above the rear-view mirror. In good condition both visually and mechanically, this elegant convertible was appraised in 2024, and the fact that it was selected by its owner’s discerning eye will appeal to all enthusiasts.
