Sold new in the United States, this sumptuous convertible, which rolled off the General Motors production line in 1963, was imported into Germany in 1988. It was owned by several collectors before joining the collection of Guido Hommel, who was fascinated by its design and its powerful 6.4-litre V8 engine producing 325 cv. The bodywork is in very good condition and has been repainted in the past. The upholstery, meanwhile, has been restored in red leather with matching carpets, which contrast sharply with the dark red of the dashboard. The standard equipment is extensive and, in addition to the optional period car radio, a cassette player has been cleverly fitted into the glove compartment so as not to detract from the overall look of the superb dashboard. The electric soft top is in good condition and fully functional, as are all four windows. With 41,841 miles on the odometer at the time of our inspection, this road cruiser has been serviced by the collection’s mechanic, ensuring it is ready to hit the road. It was appraised in March 2024. Whilst retaining the influence of its extravagant predecessors, the 1963 Cadillac marks a turning point with its sleek, more taut lines, a hallmark of resolutely modern luxury, which is what makes this fine example so appealing.

1963 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible
Sold new in the United States, this sumptuous convertible left the General Motors factory in 1963 and was imported into Germany in 1988. It was owned by several collectors before joining the collection of Guido Hommel, who was fascinated by its design and its powerful (325bhp) 6.4-litre V8. The bodywork is in very good condition and has been repainted in the past. The upholstery, meanwhile, has been restored in red leather, with matching carpets, contrasting with the dark red dashboard. The car boasts a wealth of standard equipment and, in addition to the optional period radio, a radio/cassette player has been ingeniously fitted into the glove compartment so as not to detract from the superb dashboard’s overall appearance. The electric soft top is in good condition and works, as do the four windows. With 41,841 miles on the clock when we inspected it, this ‘land yacht’ has been maintained by the collection’s own mechanic and is ready to drive. It was valued in March 2024. Whilst the influence of the most extravagant model years remained, 1963 marked a turning point at Cadillac, with cleaner, tauter styling – the hallmark of a resolutely modern form of luxury – which makes this lovely example so interesting.
