Description
1956 Porsche 356 A Speedster
Manufacturer: 1956 Porsche 356 A Speedster
Vehicle registration document: German registration certificate
Chassis No.: Chassis No. 82816
- One of the most sought-after versions of the Porsche 356
- Extensive maintenance and restoration work
- Superb condition, both inside and out
According to its factory Kardex record, this Porsche 356 A Speedster was delivered new on 7 December 1956 to the renowned New York importer Max Hoffman, in red with black imitation leather upholstery and English-language instrumentation. The Kardex also records maintenance work carried out on 4 June 1958 at 19,450 km; later in its life, the car returned to Germany, its country of origin. It was undoubtedly based in Bavaria, and the extensive file of invoices that accompanies it shows that, from 2000 onwards, it underwent significant expenditure on maintenance and restoration. In 2025, it was sold to the current owner by the estate of a collector who ran a bodywork restoration workshop in Bonn, and is in immaculate condition, finished in an attractive cream colour with a brown soft top. It is fitted with a Porsche 912 Type 616/34 engine, an air-cooled flat-four which represents a logical evolution of its original engine, based on the same architecture. This modification is not uncommon, as Speedster engines have not always stood the test of time, whilst the 912 offers increased power and reliability.
An iconic model from the early days of the brand’s sporting success, this Porsche Speedster, with its minimalist bodywork and superb finish, the very essence of the 356 in all its purity and will be perfectly at home on mountain passes, in international rallies or on the lawns of the most prestigious classic car gatherings.
