Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1948, the Citroën 2 CV was to leave a lasting mark on French motoring history. Designed around the principles of simplicity, economy and robustness, it combined an air-cooled twin-cylinder engine with an ingenious long-travel suspension, giving it remarkable comfort and ease of handling on the rough roads of the time. In 1954, the 2 CV was fitted with an engine increased to 425 cm³, which remained in use throughout the various iterations of the model over the course of the decade. Examples from the 1950s are now particularly prized for their appearance, which remains very close to that of the earliest 2 CVs.
Dating from 1957, the car on offer here embodies all the charm of those early generations. It features the characteristic corrugated bonnet as well as the small rear lights typical of that period. Its interior features attractive striped fabric upholstery combining two shades of green, perfectly in keeping with the spirit of the model. This 2 CV has undergone a complete restoration and is now in superb condition. The bodywork, interior and finishing touches all bear witness to the care taken during its restoration.
The current owner bought it four years ago in the Netherlands, shortly after its restoration had been completed, with the intention of using it at his property in Saint-Tropez. As he is too busy with his work, he has not had much opportunity to use it and would prefer to pass it on to a passionate collector.
