1963 – Fiat 1200 Cabriolet Chassis no. 118G*021946 Belgian registration document ‘Incredible looks and top-class performance for this V8-powered Renegade!’   Launched in 1959, the Fiat 1200 Cabriolet (type 118G) perfectly embodies the charm of 1960s Italian roadsters, just like its rivals from Lancia and Alfa Romeo. With its elegant Pininfarina design and respectable performance, it could also be seen as the little sister of the Peugeot 404 Cabriolet.   Fiat retained the mechanical underpinnings of its 1200 Trasformabile, with its famous 1,221 cm³ engine – which also powered the 1200 saloon and the Simca Aronde – producing 59 ch.   Produced from 1959 to 1966, the Fiat 1200 underwent several restylings of the front end as well as the introduction of new engines. Following the success of this model, and two years after the launch of its 1300/1500 saloons, Fiat introduced, in 1963, a version fitted with the 1,500 cm³ engine and launched the powerful 1500 S Cabriolet.   The car on display is in a remarkable state of original condition. It was acquired a few years ago by its current owner at auction in France. A copy of its old registration document reveals that the car had been in the same ownership, in the Ain region, since 1990. The current owner has maintained the car in its delightful aesthetic condition, whilst ensuring it receives the mechanical care required for trouble-free use: a full engine service, new brakes, tyres and battery, amongst other things.   An excellent and affordable alternative to rival convertibles, this Fiat will delight enthusiasts seeking a 1960s Italian convertible and lovers of cars in their original condition…
