Introduced in 1975, the BMW 3 Series E21 was the first generation of the iconic "3 Series" line, the first BMW family car of the modern era to evolve continuously. It replaced the legendary 02 Series, while introducing a more modern style - thanks to the pencil of Paul Bracq - and a driving philosophy that was to become BMW's signature: propulsion, balance and fun behind the wheel. The 316 version, powered by the M10-type 1.6-litre then 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine developing around 90 bhp, already offered highly appreciated dynamic handling thanks to precise steering and a well-balanced chassis. Reliable and easy to maintain, it remains an ideal entry point into the world of Bavarian youngtimers.
The BMW 316 we are presenting is probably a 1.8-litre version, given the year it was first put on the road (1981). Our visual inspection revealed four new tyres and a clean engine bay.
The interior is in good condition and reflects the care taken with this car, given the 173,732 km (non-warranty) displayed on the dashboard. A full repaint has been carried out, but we are unable to date it. Minor corrosion has also been noted.
At the time of our visit, the vehicle started right up and could be moved without any problem for the photo shoot.
