Description
1968 CITROËN 2CV AZU VAN
Vehicle registration document: French
Chassis number: 7118312
• An iconic commercial version of the 2CV range, the AZU offers a payload of 250 kg
• Completely rebuilt from a vehicle in need of restoration
Launched in 1954 as the successor to the AU model, the Citroën 2CV AZU is the commercial variant of the popular 2CV. Fitted with a 425 cm³ twin-cylinder engine, it features a practical load compartment and a payload of 250 kg, making it a favoured workhorse for tradespeople and French government departments throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Examples from the late 1960s illustrate the evolution of this van, prior to subsequent changes to the Citroën commercial vehicle range.
The example on display bears chassis number 7118312 and was first registered in 1968. Originally acquired as a restoration project, this van has undergone a complete restoration.
The restoration was carried out starting from the chassis. Mechanically, the 425 cm³ twin-cylinder engine was dismantled and overhauled, with worn parts replaced before it was reassembled. The restoration also required the use of as many new parts as possible, the majority of which were sourced from the Méhari Club Cassis. The work was carried out by our collector’s personal mechanic.
Completed in 2017, this restoration was followed by the car’s inclusion in a private collection and a private museum. Since then, it has been kept under cover and used sparingly in order to preserve its condition whilst ensuring it remains in good working order. Its overall condition is a testament to the care taken during the restoration work.
