The AC Cobra is arguably one of the most famous sports cars in motoring history. Produced from 1962 onwards by Shelby based on the elegant AC Bristol, the Cobra – initially powered by a 289ci V8 – forged a solid reputation on the racetrack, both in the United States and in Europe; indeed, the original idea was to compete with Ferraris at Le Mans!
Its simplicity, its performance and the legend surrounding it inspired many craftsmen, some more talented than others, to build replicas of the Cobra; this is particularly true of the British firm Hawk. Using a genuine 289 Cobra as a basis, they faithfully reproduced the bodywork by moulding it directly; they also built a chassis that is entirely faithful to that of the genuine Cobras.
Today, the Hawk Cobra 289 and 427 are amongst the most sought-after models, thanks to their high-quality finish, their handling characteristics, and their appearance and design, which closely resemble the original Cobra. Its roadworthiness certificate, dated 17 June 2025, is valid.
The example we are presenting here was assembled in 1984 by Hawk; a rare left-hand drive model, it is fitted with a Rover V8 engine. A rarity in the world of replicas, this Cobra comes with a French registration document clearly stating ‘Hawk’ as the manufacturer. It is sold with its soft top, tonneau cover and side windows.
