Description
1963 JAGUAR MK2 Chassis number: 222247 • Formerly owned by Pierre Bergé • Sold by our firm from his estate in 2018 • English green, beige leather • Power steering, air conditioning and four electric windows Unveiled by William Lyons at Earls Court on 2 October 1959, the Jaguar Mk2 continued the brand’s line of compact saloons. Its 3.8-litre version produces 220 ch and can reach 200 km/h, performance figures that contributed to its reputation as a sports saloon. First registered on 18 May 1963, this car belonged for many years to Pierre Bergé, patron of the arts, businessman and co-founder of the Yves Saint Laurent fashion house. He used it regularly with Yves Saint Laurent for their journeys. Our auction house sold it in 2018 during the sale of the Pierre Bergé estate. It features an English green exterior paired with a beige leather interior. Four electric windows, power steering and air conditioning were added over the years to enhance its comfort. A full restoration was carried out by S.A.O. in 1990, the quality of which was confirmed by a 2011 valuation report. At the same time, Montmartre Automobiles carried out a fresh paint job, refurbished or replaced a large proportion of the chrome trim, and performed a full mechanical overhaul, focusing in particular on the seals, the fuel pump and the radiator. Acquired in 2023 by its current owner, it has since undergone refurbishment and cosmetic work – for which no invoices are provided – designed to maintain its appearance. Linked to two leading figures in French fashion and culture, this Mk2 invites its next owner to continue its story at the wheel of a British saloon car fitted out for touring. 1963 Jaguar Mk2 3.8 Serial number: 222247 • Formerly owned by Pierre Bergé • Sold by our auction house from his estate in 2018 • British Racing Green with beige leather • Power steering, air conditioning and four electric windows Unveiled by William Lyons at Earls Court on 2 October 1959, the Jaguar Mk2 continued the marque’s range of compact saloons.
