1970 MATRA DJET VS
Chassis no. 10548
French vehicle registration document
- Capricorne Trophy for Best Restoration at the 2011 Epoqu’auto show
- Fully restored in 2011
- Eligible for the Tour Auto and numerous other events
Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1964, the Matra-Bonnet Djet VS marked an important milestone in the evolution of this iconic model. It features several aesthetic and technical improvements, as well as a 1,108 cm³ Renault Gordini engine producing 90 SAE chevaux.
This version is distinguished by a redesigned body, characterised in particular by an enlarged rectangular front air intake and a more spacious boot, made possible by a 40 cm extension of the rear overhang. The rear wheel arches have also been widened, whilst the tailgate now opens in the opposite direction, from the rear to the front. At the rear, the vertical bumpers have been replaced by a horizontal bumper.
The car on display is a 1968 Matra Djet 5 S (VS). It has undergone a restoration carried out by its previous owner, during which the vehicle was thoroughly refurbished. In particular, the entire mechanical system was rebuilt, with specific tuning of its 1,296 cm³ Gordini four-cylinder engine.
The quality of the work carried out was recognised in 2011 with the award of the prestigious Trophée Capricorne at the Époqu’Auto motor show. This award was presented to the owner in person by René-Claude Bonnet, the car’s designer and a historic figure associated with the make.
Specially prepared and equipped to compete in regularity trials, this Djet combines finely tuned mechanics, a modest kerb weight and a particularly immaculate finish. Its sporty character and history make it a car that is as unique as it is endearing.
This 1968 Matra Djet 5 S, winner of the Trophée Capricorne and fitted with its iconic 1,296 cm³ Gordini engine, represents a rare opportunity for enthusiasts of characterful French sports cars. Lightweight, agile and boasting a genuine historic pedigree, it is an ideal candidate for taking part in major motoring events such as the Tour Auto or the Coupe des Alpes.
